‘Caste’ OK as a protected class

PASADENA, Calif. — The Ninth Circuit held that California State University professors’ challenge to the inclusion of “caste” as a protected class in the university’s anti-discrimination and harassment policy, on the argument that it stigmatizes their Hinduism, was properly dismissed. The professors alleged no injury to their ability to exercise their religion, so their constitutional claims fail.
