Cat killing conviction reversed

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Court of Appeals vacated the conviction of a man accused of maliciously killing the cat he shared with his girlfriend, who testified that he admitted to the act and that she had seen specks of blood in their bathroom. The court should not have admitted defendant’s statement to police that he did not want to speak to them, and this error was not harmless beyond a reasonable doubt.
