Compelled, restricted speech

LAS VEGAS — A federal court in Nevada partially dismissed a First Amendment suit against a public school board, which allegedly violated a mother’s rights at a meeting when the board kept her from reading a speech containing explicit language that her daughter had to read in class, and violated the daughter’s rights by compelling her to read the monologue in class. The first claim is tossed because restricting profanity at meetings is a viewpoint-neutral restriction, but the second may proceed.
