Cost of copyright infringement

AMARILLO, Texas — A photographer won his copyright infringement case against a Dallas-area drug rehab facility, which used his photograph without permission on its website. He sought $21,000 in damages, but was awarded just $5,000 in statutory damages because he lacked evidence that the program’s use of his picture caused it to significantly lose its value. The court also awards about $2,300 in attorney fees and costs.
