County official can’t dodge judgment debt

ATLANTA — The 11th Circuit upheld a Georgia court’s refusal to discharge a judgment debt against a DeKalb County commissioner who petitioned for bankruptcy after a jury returned a $150,000 verdict against him for slander, battery and false imprisonment. He falsely accused two people of stealing his wallet at a bar and tried to have them arrested. Because the debt arose from the willful and malicious confinement of those individuals, who he taunted and cursed at, it is not dischargeable.
