Dairy Farmers Sue U.S. & Auctioneer

CHICAGO (CN) – The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture is allowing The Seam, a private, Memphis-based electronic auctioneer, to sell millions of pounds of nonfat dry milk at illegally low prices, the National Milk Producers Federation claims in Federal Court. The Seam gets 4.75% commission on its sales, which will release federally purchased milk back into the market, says the Federation, which claims to represent two-thirds of U.S. milk producers.
