WASHINGTON (CN) – The Labor Department’s Mine Safety and Health Administration is reviewing its standards for dams, because of the potential for life-threatening hazards to miners. The agency is concerned that some dams are not designed, constructed, operated or maintained to accepted dam safety practices. The agency is considering approaches to better protect miners from the hazards of dam failures and requests information to help determine how best to proceed.
