Detainment ethics

CHICAGO — The Seventh Circuit affirmed an Illinois federal court’s decision to detain a criminal defendant until his trial even though he has attempted suicide three times and threatened to take his life if the court does not dismiss his charges. “Although the mere existence of suicide risk is not itself sufficient to justify pretrial detention, the unique circumstances of this case nonetheless warrant detention.”
