SAN ANTONIO (CN) – A criminal defendant who escaped from a San Antonio courthouse after claiming he needed to make a phone call remains at large. Christopher Jones fled from a Bexar County courtroom during jury selection on Wednesday, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The 31-year-old is accused of attacking his former girlfriend on February 2012 at her apartment. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of aggravated assault. Jones was free on bond before his trial. His electronic ankle monitor was found discarded several miles away from the courthouse after the escape. There is a warrant for Jones arrest. Jail records indicate he is no longer in the custody of the Bexar County Sheriff. Jones’ attorney, Scott McCrum, of San Antonio, told the Express-News his client wanted to call his father about a legal matter.
