DES MOINES, Iowa (CN) – Don King Productions won a legal fight in Iowa Supreme Court over a boxing promoter that claimed interference with boxer Tye Fields’ contract. Capital Promotions claimed that Don King Productions interfered with its contract with the heavyweight fighter. However, Justice Ternus agreed with the trial court that the defendant is outside Iowa jurisdiction. Fields’ promotional rights were not discussed in the phone call Capital complained about, Ternus ruled. Other phone calls, which could have been used to establish Don King Production’s knowledge of Fields’ contract were not cited in Capital’s complaint. Also, the Iowa court did not have jurisdiction, because the alleged actions were directed at Fields and his manager, who were residents of Nevada. The fight was to take place in Missouri.
