Drilling Threatens 30 Million Acres

MANHATTAN (CN) – The **U.S. Department of the Interior ‘s **Minerals Management Service refuses to release records on what environmental studies, if any, it conducted before offering oil and gas drilling leases on 30 million acres in the Chukchi Sea, scheduled for sale on Feb. 6, says the Natural Resources Defense Council  in a Federal Court action. The Chukchi Sea is home to threatened polar bears, bowhead whales, gray whales, Pacific walrus and seals.
