‘Election integrity’ in Texas

NEW ORLEANS — The Fifth Circuit found that a Texas federal court improperly determined that legislative privilege didn’t apply to discovery documents sought by a migrant worker advocacy group. The documents were exchanged members of the Legislature and the state executive, and purportedly concern election integrity but, allegedly, actually intend to discriminate against minorities’ vote. The documents are protected by legislative privilege because the matter does not demand federal interest.
