Firearm storage liability

RALEIGH, N.C. — A mother’s convictions for involuntary manslaughter and failure to properly store a firearm were overturned by the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Her teenage son’s friend killed himself with one of the mother’s guns when the boys were having a sleepover, and she was found guilty in a bench trial. The trial court may not have considered the sufficiency of the evidence for an alternative theory of culpability.
