NEGLIGENCE – A Florida appeals court held that the sheriff of Marion County and his deputies were not responsible for the death of a woman whom they left in her house after finding her alive but unresponsive. Officers are not obligated to render emergency aid during a well-being check, because they are only ensuring that the risk of harm to a person does not increase. Additionally, the officers’ actions did not prevent two neighbors from calling an ambulance. See ruling.
