Four dead horses

BATON ROUGE, La. — A federal court in Louisiana declined to grant summary judgment to an intermediary broker of a load being hauled by a trucker who drove into a stationary horse trailer, killing four thoroughbred horses inside. A reasonable jury could conclude the broker negligently hired the trucking company whose driver lost control of the rig, rather than a more experience and knowledgeable motor carrier, and that their negligence contributed to the accident.
