JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) – Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed a bill setting maximum caseloads for public defenders. Nixon said that limiting caseloads would not solve the overburdened system’s problems. The bill would have allowed the state to contract with private attorneys to handle cases that exceeded the maximum figure.
