Great Lakes faces class action over student loans

CHICAGO — Great Lakes, the student loan servicer, will face a fraud class action in Illinois federal court. A borrower sufficiently alleged that his excess student loan payments were wrongfully applied solely to the interest accumulated, rather than paying down the principal as expected and as the servicer had done to one of his five loans. His unjust enrichment claim is dismissed, however.
