Hands off the Church

EL PASO, Texas — An appeals court in Texas upheld a finding in favor of a diocese that was sued by parishioners who had raised funds to build a new church, then sued for fraud once the diocese ultimately decided to use the funds for other matters. Because the claims involve “an ecclesiastical matter of church organization and governance,” the court cannot get involved under the First Amendment.
