SACRAMENTO — The owner of Point Buckler Island in the greater San Francisco Bay will not get a reprieve from paying for the restoration of the island after he was found liable for constructing an illegal levee and polluting the water around the island. John Donnelly Sweeney argues that he is financially incapable of restoring the island, but his decision to risk his money through cryptocurrency trading is not a basis for reconsideration and he did not take advantage of his prior opportunities to present evidence of his “crippled” finances, a federal judge ruled.
