Judge Tosses Nevada 'Personhood' Petition

(CN) – A Nevada state judge tossed a proposed anti-abortion ballot measure that sought to rewrite the state constitution and define a person as “everyone possessing a human genome.” Carson City District Court Judge James Russell said the so-called “personhood” initiative was too vague to be put to voters before November.     Although it never mentions the word “abortion,” the Nevada Personhood initiative sought to change the state Constitution and extend due-process rights to the time of human conception.     Russell also canned the initiative because it violates a state law that limits initiatives to one topic.     The petition to rewrite the Constitution was filed in October.
