ST. LOUIS (CN) – A Missouri man allegedly threatened to kill a federal judge in Nebraska. Jeffery Phillips, 37, of Ste. Genevieve, is charged with mailing a threatening letter to a judge on the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Federal prosecutors say Phillips mailed a letter to Judge C. Arlen Beam that contained a white powder. The letter, sent in July, said the powder was anthrax and allegedly threatened the judge and his family. It was not clear what, if any, relationship the judge had to Phillips. Phillips faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years probation if convicted. Ste. Genevieve is 65 miles south of St. Louis.
