DETROIT (CN) – The **Green, Libertarian and **Reform Parties of Michigan and **Metro Times newspaper demand the Michigan Secretary of State provide them information on the political party preference of everyone who votes in the Jan. 15 presidential primary. They claim the state unconstitutionally provides that information to the “two major parties” to use “for virtually any purpose which ‘supports’ the parties’ ‘political activities,’” but subjects anyone else who uses the information, “including news organizations,” to criminal prosecution, and exempts the information from disclosure under state FOIA law. See the federal complaint.
