Missouri County Sues eBrokers for Local Tax

CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) – Operators of 18 Internet sites, including Expedia, Hotels.com Priceline.com and Orbitz, owe St. Louis County hotel and motel taxes, the county says. The county claims the online brokers are required by ordinance to collect and remit a 3 percent hotel tax, but failed to do so.     St. Louis County seeks actual damages and quintuple, punitive damages. It is represented by Jonathan Andres.      Here are the defendants: Prestige Travel, Expedia, Hotels.com, Hotwire, Travelnow.com, Lowestfare.com, Priceline.com, Travelweb, Travelocity.com, Site159.com, Travelport, Trip Network, Orbitz, Onetravel, Travelzoo, Internetwork Publishing, Maupin-Tour Holdings, and Interactive Hotel.
