GREENSBORO, N.C. — A federal court in North Carolina denied the North Carolina Board of Elections’ motion to dismiss several voter advocacy groups’ complaint that a bill threatens voter protections. In North Carolina, a voter can register to vote and vote on the same day, then they are sent a non-forwardable card to their address; if the state board of elections doesn’t receive that card, the voter’s ballot is removed from the count. The advocates have shown that some voters may not be given a chance to prove their residency under this system.
