NCAA’s 5-year rule

CHICAGO — The Seventh Circuit reversed a Wisconsin federal court’s decision to grant a preliminary injunction in favor of a college football player who wants to keep the NCAA from enforcing its Five-Year Rule, which would prevent him from playing a fifth season. The student-athlete says the rule is an unreasonable restriction of trade, but the appeals court says he has not independently defined the market, nor shown how his exclusion alone demonstrates anticompetitive effects.
