Not defamed if it’s true

HONOLULU — A Hawaii federal judge found in favor of a hotel sued for defamation by an employee who was fired for using her position as a server to steal cash from the hotel restaurant’s register. The hotel had warned coworkers that the former server was fired for stealing, but these statements were not defamatory because they were factually true.
