Ohio social media law paused

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A federal court in Ohio granted an internet trade association’s motion for a preliminary injunction against the state to prevent it from enforcing the Parental Notification by Social Media Operators Act, a state law seeking to require minors under 16 to receive parental consent before they can sign up for such social media sites as Facebook and YouTube. The law likely violates kids’ First Amendment rights and is overly broad.
