Policeman under scrutiny for misdirected prosecution

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A federal court in Alabama ruled that a police officer can’t dodge malicious prosecution claims in a case where the cop seemed to cover for a hit-and-run driver, who is related to the police chief, and instead went after the husband of the woman killed in the incident. The driver was never charged, but the officer obtained a manslaughter indictment, later quashed, against the husband.
