Romanian Firm Indicted Over Diluted Disinfectant

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romanian prosecutors have indicted a pharmaceutical company on charges that the disinfectants they manufactured failed to fight disease.     The general prosecutor’s office says Friday it has indicted Hexi Pharma, which filed for insolvency this week, on charges of failing to combat diseases after its disinfectants were found to be highly diluted.     The Institute for Research and Development in Chemistry and Petrochemistry said samples tested this week revealed that the disinfectants for surfaces and hands were at times ten times weaker than stated.     Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, who is also Romania’s acting health minister, sent health authorities to four hospitals Friday to check documents in connection with the case that has provoked public outrage.     Police on Friday searched the phones and computers of Hexi Pharma’s general manager and chief chemist.      Copyright 2016 The Associated Press.
