WASHINGTON (CN) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has proposed a more stringent safety standard for portable bed rails. The agency believes that it will further reduce the risk of injury associated with these products. The agency’s proposed regulation would require critical installation components, such as a locking clamp or an anchor plate/strap, to be labeled with a clear and obvious warning of an entrapment hazard, because if they are installed incorrectly, the portable bed rail may move away from the mattress, which can lead to entrapment and death, according to the agency.
