Schenectady slander

ALBANY, N.Y. — A federal court in New York declined to dismiss a hairstylist’s defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and tortious interference with business relations claims against a beauty supply store in Schenectady, New York, which knowingly falsely accused the stylist of shoplifting in front of customers. The crime of “serious crime” for the purpose of slander claims, and falsely making those accusations constitutes actual malice.
