(CN) – More than 7 years after his conviction for the murders of his wife Laci and unborn son, Scott Peterson appealed his death sentence to the California Supreme Court. In a 423-page filing, Peterson continues to maintain his innocence and says the extraordinary publicity that was associated with the case, coupled with erroneous evidentiary rulings, made it impossible for him to get a fair trial. Throughout his trial, Peterson maintained that his pregnant wife Laci was alive and well when he left their Modesto, California home Christmas Eve morning in 2002 to go fishing on San Francisco Bay. Peterson was convicted of the murders in 2004 and has been on death row since March 2005, according to several published reports.
