'Selfish, Decadent' CFO Going to Prison

SAN DIEGO (CN) – A former CFO was sentenced Friday to a year and a day in prison for embezzling $412,300 from a Jewish community center in La Jolla for what the judge called “selfish, decadent spending.”     Nancy Johnson, 59, of Escondido, stole $412,289 from the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, which U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw called “a wonderful community organization” as he sent Johnson to prison.     Johnson spent the stolen money on vacations in Hawaii and the Bahamas and fancy shoes, among other things. At the same time, she was laying people off and cutting programs “to make up for the hundreds of thousands of dollars she was siphoning off from the JCC coffers,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.     Johnson could have been sentenced to 23 years in prison for wire fraud and tax fraud.
