MANHATTAN (CN) – A Somali man captured by the U.S. military in the Persian Gulf region 3 months ago was charged Tuesday with providing support to two terrorist groups: al Shabaab and al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame was interrogated for more than 2 months overseas; he was arraigned Tuesday in Federal Court, shortly after arriving in New York’s Southern District, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. The 9-count indictment also accuses him of training people to use weapons and explosives. Warsame, who is believed to be in his mid-20s, faces up to life in prison if convicted.
