Soong Named Clerk of Northern District of CA

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) – Ninth Circuit deputy clerk Susan Soong will replace Richard Wieking as clerk of California’s Northern District Court on Aug. 24.     Soong, a resident of Albany, Calif., earned her bachelor’s degree in human biology from Stanford University and her law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.     Prior to starting as Chief Deputy Clerk of Operations at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal in 2009, Soong was a staff attorney at the court from 1994-2009, where she supervised up to 32 other attorneys for many years.     As chief deputy clerk at the Ninth, Soong helped implement the court’s case management and e-filing system, and trained over 1,000 attorneys on how to use it, according to a press release issued by the Northern District. In 2011, she spent a year-long residency in Washington, D.C., working on national projects with the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.     Soong also plays the violin and viola in several Bay Area chamber music groups, the Northern District’s statement said.     Soong’s selection comes after Wieking announced his retirement in June, after serving as head clerk for 26 years.     She declined to be interviewed at this time.
