ST. CHARLES, Mo. (CN) – Missouri claims that former New York Mets slugger Darryl Strawberry owes it $8,800 in taxes. Strawberry and his wife, Tracy, failed to pay $8,583 in state income taxes in 2011, and with interest owe $8,786.86, according to the state’s Department of Revenue. Strawberry, 41, lives in St. Charles County, 30 miles west of St. Louis. Strawberry, whose personal problems made headlines during and after his 17-year pro baseball career, now operates the Darryl Strawberry Foundation to fight autism. He recorded 1,000 RBIs and 335 home runs and had a lifetime batting average of .259.
