Supplying defamation

AUSTIN, Texas — The Supreme Court of Texas, answering questions certified by the Fifth Circuit, addressed whether someone can be liable for defamation if they supplied defamatory material for someone else to publish. The underlying suit involves a woman who says she was sexually assaulted at a Southern Baptist seminary and wants to bring defamation claims against the donors who wrote a letter accusing her of lying. The high court says yes, you can be liable for supplying defamatory material for someone else to publish if you intend or know that the material will be published.
