Texas governor, AG exempt from mandamus writs

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Supreme Court ruled that a district court did not have the jurisdiction to grant a nonprofit’s petition for mandamus relief against Texas Governor Greg Abbott and his attorney general Ken Paxton, who allegedly violated the Public Information Act. Texas law and its constitution “do not empower district courts to issue writs against constitutional executive officers like the governor and the attorney general.” Only the state’s high court has this authority.
