Texas voter purge

AUSTIN, Texas — Civil rights and voting groups are suing Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson and other election officials over a state voter “purge” program that uses the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE, database to check citizenship records and flag voters for removal from rolls. The groups say the process relies on outdated citizenship data and can wrongly identify naturalized citizens as possible noncitizens, subjecting them to citizenship checks.
