WASHINGTON (CN) – The U.S. Postal Service seeks public comment on its proposal to change its standards toward consolidating its processing and transportation networks, so it does not go bankrupt. Mail volumes have steadily declined as the Internet has taken over much of U.S. communication, and the Postal Service’s large operations work inefficiently, with this change. The proposed rule includes eliminating the expectation of overnight service for first class mail and periodicals, and, for each of these classes, narrowing the two-day delivery range and enlarging the three-day delivery range.
