Tort suit over fiery police chase tossed

DALLAS — A Texas driver who sued Dallas and two of its police officers after he was injured in a high-speed chase — which ended when he lost control of his vehicle, which caught fire after crashing — saw a federal court toss his civil rights claims. The chase did not constitute a “seizure” protected by the Fourth Amendment; the officers did not have a duty to render aid after the crash as he was not in police custody; and his state tort claim fails because the driver lost control of his car, which was not contacted by police vehicles.
