CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CN) – Students at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte were told Tuesday evening to run, hide or fight following reports of an active shooter on campus, who is said to have killed two people and injured four others.
Students received an emergency alert around 5:50 p.m., after reports of shots being fired near the Kennedy Hall on UNC Charlotte’s main campus prompted an immediate lockdown.
“Shots reported near kennedy. Run, Hide, Fight. Secure yourself immediately,” the university’s alert said.
A male suspect is reportedly in police custody.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says law enforcement is sweeping buildings on campus one by one, and is directing students to reunite with their families at a Harris Teeter location near campus.
This is a developing story…
