(CN) – The Labor Department on Thursday said applications for unemployment benefits rose last week to the highest level since February 2015. Government economists said there were no special factors affecting this week’s initial claims. Despite the increase, they have remained below 300,000 for more than a year. The report also marks 62 consecutive weeks of initial claims below 300,000, the longest streak since 1973.
