Vehicle Emissions Standards Will Change

WASHINGTON (CN) – The Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have proposed establishing new standards for “light” vehicles, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel economy. The standards would apply to passenger cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty passenger vehicles, covering model years 2012 through 2016.     One of the agencies’ goals in setting the standards is for auto manufacturers to be able to build a single light-duty national fleet that satisfies all requirements under both programs, with a full range of vehicle choices.
